You Train Your Body But Not Your Brain…?

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

5 reasons why you need to train your brain as well.

Life is busy. And, at times, stressful. We are aware of the benefits of training our body. But what about our brain? Below are five reasons you need to train your brain and how you can do it.

Ultimately, if your mind is not clear, balanced and calm, your entire life is affected. We create our lives through the thoughts, beliefs and the actions we take.

If you are acting from a place of fear, stress, or limiting self-beliefs, your life will not be the optimum life of your dreams. Instead, you will manifest your fears and limiting beliefs...until they are transmuted.

One of the simplest ways to reduce or overcome these limitations is with NeurOptimal advanced brain training. Here are 5 reasons you need to train your brain and your body for a healthy life.

1) Brain training helps balance the Nervous System.

Life can be stressful. When we are exposed to long-term stress, our Sympathetic Nervous System (fight, flight, or freeze) can get stuck ‘on.’ When this happens, stress hormones such as Cortisol and Adrenaline become normalized in the body, and the ‘switch’ between our Sympathetic Nervous System and Parasympathetic Nervous System responses (rest and digest) gets turned off.

We no longer recognize the stress hormones as the signal to stop and rest. Instead, bursts of Cortisol flood our system whilst sitting on the couch, or at 3 am in the middle of the night when stress takes hold once again.

Brain training helps to rebalance the nervous system, enabling the body to shift more easily between the sympathetic response (fight, flight or freeze) and the parasympathetic response (rest and digest).

Any bouts of stress or anxiety become less frequent and of less intensity. It enables you to be calmer, more relaxed, more grounded, and most importantly, better able to deal with life’s challenges.

2) Brain training creates new neural pathways.

Brain training works with the brain's Neuroplasticity. This is its ability to modify, form or reorganize its synaptic connections, or in simple terms, to rewire itself.

Brain training is like going to the gym for the brain. It is building resilience and strength into your system to optimize brain performance. As the brain becomes more finely tuned, bad habits' negative effects can become more difficult to ignore, leading to significant life changes.

Brain training helps to release old patterns and unhealthy habits. Over time, new neural pathways are established which become the ‘new normal’. As these pathways become resilient, they ‘settle in’ and will remain with you for life.

3) Brain training helps increase self-esteem

Self-esteem is how we look at ourselves and how much value we place on our own self-worth. Healthy self-esteem enables us to be self-forgiving when mistakes are made. It enables us to love our imperfections and value our contributions to others and the world.

Low self-esteem robs us of self-love and confidence. It makes us feel unworthy and highly critical of ourselves and our flaws. It takes away your ability to interact with others and enjoy life easily. It can lead to anxiety, depression, low work performance, strained relationships, and a negative outlook on life.

Brain training helps build self esteem by detecting turbulence or inconsistencies in brainwave activity and providing this information to the brain so it can autocorrect.

The brain can then adjust its activities to create new neural pathways that help bring about a change in mindset.

4) Brain training assists in peak performance.

Your ability to perform, whether at work, home, or in the sporting arena, not only relies on your individual ability but also your mindset.

Any elite athlete will tell you; mindset is everything. New concepts are more easily learned given the right mindset, and brain training creates the new neural pathways needed to move out of your comfort zone into areas of new growth and expansion.

Training your brain helps you increase concentration, optimise cognitive activity, overcome setbacks, adopt healthier habits, work under pressure, set and achieve goals, increase workflow and balance the many different roles of life.

5) Brain training helps you be more present.

Brain training refocuses the brain to the present moment. It is a listening device that listens to your brain's activity and provides feedback about its processing performance.

Using a real-time display of brain activity (EEG), it detects inconsistency and abrupt changes in the brain's electrical activity. It informs the brain of these hidden shifts through interruptions in the music you're listening to. It, therefore, provides information to the brain to allow it to reorganize itself.

This real-time feedback brings the brain back to present and provides information about what it is doing, which allows the brain to recognise patterns of stress and make adjustments to release these patterns.

It doesn’t do anything to the brain. It does not stimulate or force your brain in any way. There is no electrical current going into your brain. It is like going to the gym for your brain. Your brain is working very hard, and it is your brain that makes the changes based on the feedback, not the system.

Training your brain brings resilience, adaptability, and better brain function regulation, allowing you to be present and perform at your best.

The Different Types of Neurofeedback.

There are many different types of Neurofeedback on the market.

Most are linear forms of neurofeedback that ‘make changes’ to your brain by changing the amplitude or speed of specific brain waves in particular brain locations. Some even provide a weak electromagnetic current into the brain to change the patient's brain waves.

The brain training I recommend is NeurOptimal Neurofeedback. It is the world’s only dynamical, non-linear neurofeedback system in the world. This means it works with your brain’s OWN natural healing processes to optimize brain performance.

It is a safe, natural, drug free, non-invasive method with decades of evidence-based research and over 3 million hours of training worldwide.

Most importantly, it doesn’t force your brain in any particular direction or send any ‘current into the brain.

It doesn’t try to ‘make’ your brain do anything, and it is not based on an ‘assessment’ of what your brain ‘needs’ by an external practitioner.Instead, it acts like a mirror to the brain so your brain can make the changes it needs.

Each person's journey is different. We are all unique, starting from a different place with different training reasons. Therefore, train your brain in a way that enables you to be the best version of yourself. And for me, that involves NeurOptimal Neurofeedback.
